Eamonn & Dean
Eamonn has been Head of Hurworth School from 1995 - 2006. With Dean leading from the front in recent years, a mediocre school has been transformed into one of the country's top performers (32nd in the country in 2007 for KS2-4 CVA with a score of 1046.5; 81% gaining 5+A*-Cs including English & Maths). Now Eamonn's its Chief Executive and Dean the substantive Head Teacher.
Since 2002, Eamonn has been taking on challenges outside of Hurworth School, using its expertise to raise achievement in other schools and taking on other challenges. The North East's Head Teacher of the Year in 2007, Dean Judson, has led the school in Eamonn's absence. Taking it to even higher levels. His teaching and leadership being recognised by OfSTED as "outstanding".
In 2002 Eamonn was seconded by Darlington LA to re-organise its Advisory Service. Working in collaboration with ALL stakeholders, he devised a blueprint and model for a new School Improvement Service which was subsequently and successfully developed.
Between 2003-05, Eamonn was Chief Executive of one of the country’s first “rescue” federations -Hurworth School federating with a neighbouring school which had an apparently intractable case special measures.
Having removed Hurworth's partner school from special measures in November 2004, the federation ended in July 2005. However, following the sudden resignation of its Head Teacher, he stayed on as Acting Head to keep the school stable before returning to Hurworth in December 2005.
Eamonn then worked with the SLT and governors in another Darlington school which had also gone into special measures, ensuring that the school’s recovery action plan was of the required standard. He also wrote the LA’s support plan.
Since July 2007, Eamonn & Dean have been working two days a week as Consultants to the SLT of another LA school, implementing their nationally acclaimed Assertive Mentoring systems.
Since November 2006, Eamonn & Dean have developed and successfully delivered conferences in England, Wales and Scotland, as well as to forces schools in Germany, on raising achievement through Asssertive Mentoring. Over 800 delegates have attended and the evaluations have been outstanding.
Eamonn & Dean have co-authored two books: 1) Assertive Mentoring; 2) Guide for Assertive Mentors. Thousands of copies have been sold. And they've produced CDs and DVDs showcasing their work.
